Starting Out With WordPress – .com or .org?

Firstly, you need to make a decision.  Do you choose .com or .org?  Do you know the difference?  This is a brief guide to the differences between the two that will help you make an informed choice when you are starting out:

Harder to break
Not very flexible
No ability to upload new themes
No ability to upload plugins
URL will contain ‘WordPress’ unless you pay for an upgrade
Third party ads on your site unless you pay to have them removed

Access to hundreds of free and premium themes for easy upload
Access to hundreds of plugins to adapt
Complete flexibility
If you are technical – ability to change coding
You can monetize your site
Need to pay for hosting either monthly or yearly
Need to buy a domain name
You are responsible for security
You are responsible for creating backups
You need to update the software when newer versions are release
